Review

I recently checked out SCP Terra Farm Kitchen and it also happened to be the day they rolled out a new menu, which always makes things a little more interesting. My friend had no qualms, I always believe you’re either catching magic… or the first draft. I like rolling the dice and this one was magic.

We started with the spring crudité and it set the tone right away. Fresh, clean, and that hummus… really well done. Smooth, a little kick, just enough to wake it up without taking over the plate. It was also big enough to share.

We It is a pizza place so we dove right in choosing the lamb with pesto and burrata, wild onion and mushroom, and asparagus & egg pizzas. First thing that hit me, these pies are light. Not weighed down with ingredients or oils, just balanced and healthy. I’m not usually a crust guy, I’ll usually just leave it sitting there without a second thought… didn’t happen here. I ate all of it and wanted more.

The combinations are where they separate a bit. These aren’t your standard “seen it everywhere” pizzas. They’re a little adventurous, with thought behind them, definitely avant-garde.

They’ve got an interesting wine and beer lineup too. Not overwhelming, just curated enough that you can find something that fits what you’re eating without trouble focusing on California.

The space itself… comfortable, warm, bright and easy to settle into. It is open and relaxed. Our waitress was fabulous, present and attentive, not hovering over your shoulder and she was well versed on the new menu.

For those that know, this used to be Glendeven, so the farm to table roots have always been there. It’s been an icon on the coast for a long time, and Terra is doing a solid job carrying that forward while to carving out their own identity.

We’ve got a lot of pizza options up and down the coast… from Papa Murphy’s take and bake to fun spots like Frankie’s in Mendocino. Terra isn’t trying to be any of them, and that’s probably the point. It is setting a new standard.

I will be back.
